Dulux 2014 Colour Trends 2014 – Part 1

Well the first quarter of 2014 has been a huge celebration of colour and design with awards being presented left and right in the industry. So, I thought it would be nice to go back and share some more of the Dulux Colour Forecasts for this year… have you considered using any of these colours before? Would you in future?

The two schemes we are featuring today are Digital Nomads and Precious Elementals.

DIGITAL NOMADS

Inspired by exotic destinations such as India, Africa and Morocco, this vibrant colour scheme captures the imagination and imagery of the Digital Nomad.

This global fusion of colours celebrates these cultures and the contrasts, creating this bold and unique palette, which oozes warmth of the exotic places to which they were inspired.

PRECIOUS ELEMENTALS

This scheme just draws me in… inspired and deeply aware of the affect civilisation is having on our beautiful planet. The Precious Elementals colour scheme respects and values our Earth’s natural resources, elements and geometric forms.

The lovely palate features pastels and soft greys, and is modernised by the inclusion of mineral and metal hues. Patinas and raw finishes reflect natures weathering effects.

Etsy Tuesday – Photography Pillows

Well every week we try to find something new and exciting from Etsy, and today I am really excited to share with you some lovely Photography Pillows – there are thousands of them, and they would cater for everyone’s taste, but here I am just featuring a selection that jumped out at me to get your thoughts going on how you may incorporate a photography pillow in your living or bedroom.

Retro Love Photography – with their gorgeous tropical beach photography pillow will bring your costal holiday alive…

Eyne Photography – brings the yule fest of snow and pine trees into your cozy living room.

Long Forgotten – Brining the very famous motif to life, Bird on a Wire is just a gorgeous, crisp composition which would look fabulous in a B&W decorated space…

Kalstek Photography – This retro swing reminds me of my favourite ride at Australia’s Wonderland when I was a little girl. This whimsical and nostalgic image would look lovely in a little girls room…

November Dawn – their fabulous winter wonderland pillow is raw and imperfect which is what draws me to this image. This would look great in an alpine cottage, country holiday home or a boys room (or if you love the mountains… of course as a bed throw!)

Heartland Photo by SJW – This moody lake pillow just draws you in deeper, and I’d picture this piece looking  great in a monochromatic space, with a lot of white, and some black. This would be a real focal point.

Four Trees Photography – Surf Wax America pillow with the boards in the rack is a lovely touch of surf culture. Great for any coastal space which is after a more eclectic, vintage look.

Inmyc – Vintage typewriters always intrigue me, I love looking at all the little details, the keys, how they move and press. This is a great pillow. It’s of such a unique subject matter, and that’s why you look! This pillow would really suit a more vintage or loft style place in the inner west of Sydney.

Crystal Gayle Photo – This rainbow captured in the flat countryside with a bus in the USA is an interesting composition which I just had to share. I’d love to see this in a north coast cottage…

Kimberly Blok – This is a fantastic, non intrusive photography pillow which would work in any space. A lovely picture of the beach and people enjoying the waters, however the colour way is very desaturated and bright, so being predominately white means it is more versatile. I would see this pillow looking great in an urban coastal apartment – with monochrome scheme and pops of colour.

VQ Studio – The last two images are both by the same Etsy store… VQ Studio, African Sunset and Brooklyn Bridge. The whole store is fantastic, so I’d really recommend you checking it out. Most of the products are utilising her great photography in wall clocks, totes and cushions. The clocks look great!

Etsy Tuesday – Intriguing decor

HRUSKAA – Geometric Orb: designed as a modern reinvention inspired by a Finnish tradition. This orb is called a Himmeli, from the Swedish word ‘himmel’ meaning sky or heaven. They were created to celebrate the beginning of Winter Solstice and serve a means of good fortune for the future. It comes with a choise of a small white vessel (as seen) or glass vase.

Karen Kimmel Studios The Shape Shifter:  An exploration of color and movement, this piece can be nailed directly to the wall to act as a feature sculptural wall hanging, or hung from its accompanying string to enhance the dynamic movement of the shapes in a space.

Baskakova – Tiger Teacup and Serving Bowl: both these pieces I just had to share. Cat Cup is an elegant object challenging the common prejudice of cats and their avoidance of water. Tigers for instance love water and often bask in it to cool down from the jungle heat! The Miro inspired serving bowl just makes you want to make it to the end of the dish to be hypnotised by the abstract patterns and random markings.

The Block – Bedroom 2 Reveal

The Fans have brought their A game to the show… watch out Faves!

Steve & Chantelle – their room brought a contemporary twist on Art Deco with Aztec and American Indian fusion to add some spice and warmth to the space.

The styling workshop with Darren obviously rang some bells with all the fans and they produced their strongest rooms yet. I’m really looking forward to seeing the journey of the fans in the coming weeks!

Kyal & Kara – I just love these guys style. After a few rocky weeks at the beginning, they look like they definitely have their mojo back! Choosing a very moody and interesting piece of art and working their palette around the warm orange and cool greys. This room has really brought back why this lovely couple were chosen.

The boys, Brad & Dale – After a very strong bathroom and terrace week, the boys weren’t as strong as the fans. Their surfaces are just stunning and they definietly have what it takes to win. Unfortunately they incorporated a few too many colours from the artwork to make the space a bit too bright and busy. A solid effort though – they are still working on the styling. But the foundation is rock solid!

Alisa & Lysandra – these girls just pull it together every week (even when they don’t try) which is fab. I must admit that, this week I was glad to see them push their own boundaries and experiment with colour. I love the art and the texture in the room. But some elements (like the lamps) I don’t think work. I also agree’d with Darren on the length of the artwork – it would be hard to sit up in bed and some people will have an issue of having such a heavy piece above their heads when sleeping.

What did you think of the room reveals?

Simple and fun ways to change the look of your bedroom

Sorbet Colours with Kip & Co

Bedding is all about having fun in the bedroom, it’s an element you can constantly change and mix up. Like this fabulous combination utilising our favourite Kip & Co pieces, including Matchstick Duvet cover and pillow cases…

Founder of New Zealand online store, Superette, Rickie Dee has developed a lovely non intrusive and interesting neutral base of the bed head, side table and lamp, but then has gone to town with this fun combination of bedding. This would allow her to constantly change and evolve the look of the space, just by changing the sheets!

Etsy Tuesday – The Object Enthusiast

Today’s Etsy Tuesday is centred around this lovely store called The Object Enthusiast… beautifully designed and hand crafted by Emily Reinhardt from Nebraska USA; these delightful, one of a kind, made to order pieces will add some shine and intrigue into your homely vignettes.

What is Emily’s drive? As she says… “Nothing makes me happier than creating with my own hands. I think I’m most excited when I have a lump of clay sitting in front of me, and I look at it and know it will become this physical, tangible thing. An object that does something for someone else, and holds value to its owner. I hope my ceramics become important, heirloom-quality objects, items that hold significance and get handed down to other loved ones.”

Check out Emily’s blog ‘The Object Enthusiast’ is also a must vistit page, and instagram.

Exotic Retro

Exotic Portrait Fenton & Fenton

I came across this image today on Fenton & Fenton‘s gallery and I just loved it. The bold hues of blue and the amazing exotic portrait on the wall. The combination of timbers, B&W and blue just make my eyes dance over the scene.  I hope you like today’s picture of the day as much as we do!

‘ray’ by Tomas Kral

tomas kral for petite friture, france

I came across these pendants at September’s Maison et Objet 2013 in Paris. This series of pendant lamps are designed by Slovakian designer Tomas Kral for French brand Petite Friture and was recently featured in my favourite design blog ‘Designboom‘. Named ‘ray’, this series of pendant lights consist of a cone mesh construction, which when lit, creates a unique diffused effect through the lace veil-like surface. I love the colours and the different shapes – these can be used in a mixed composition or uniform to create totally different looks.

Hollywood Glamour

Worlds Away range through Regency Distribution is an amazing way to introduce some glamour into your home. Whether it’s a costal apartment, or inner city townhouse, Worlds Away brings a whole new level of sophistication into the space.

Hollywood Regency and Mid Century design inspire them to design more of the traditional pieces that can relate to today’s interiors with a hint of the past.

Gold leaf and nickel-plated iron tables feature, complimented with marble or antique mirrored tops. Consoles, dressers, buffets and media units come in a selection of finishes from black or white lacquer to a choice of timber veneers which gives the range so much versatility – it can be introduced into any scheme.
