Japanese Spa Style – Inspiration Style Board

JapaneseSpa_Refreshing

Well I am so excited for my trip to Japan next year in February that I’ve played with this style board. It’s a contemporary inspired Japanese theme where dark and light is brought together with beautiful lush foliage, vertical greenery and gorgeous, rich blue hues of Shibori.

Bahamas Beach House – Style Board

I love the tropics and dream of one day having a home in the Caribbean to chill out and live a nice relaxing life…. no harm in dreaming 🙂 one thing is for certain, I will have a plantation style home, just maybe not located in the Bahamas…

Contemporary Rock Meets Industrial

Another awesome, Rock style apartment designed by Buster+Punch!

Buster+Punch’s bespoke design is prevalent here with their fantastic amalgamation of industrial style with contemporary rock n roll. The metal work is unique, intruiguing  and a fantastic display of how furniture and lighting design can work cohesively in a fantastically edgy composition.

We love their armchair and light-in-one design!

If you like their work, we have featured earlier this year a funky, character filled South West London Edwardian Apartment, click here to check out the imagery and article.

Etsy Tuesday: Australian store spotlight

This month on Etsy Tuesday we were keen to share with you some Aussie stores so we can support local crafts.

Pom By Pomegranate – Jacinta’s lovely hand printed linen cushion covers and silk scarfs are a lovely touch to any outfit or throw cushion composition. If you’re after anything more specific, make sure you contact Jacinta to see if she can customise a colour or design for you.

Wendy June – based in Melbourne, Wendy creates lovely tea towels, ceramics, prints and cards, inspired by cute beastly creatures and her garden, be sure to check out her store.

Maison Blanche Candles – candles are a huge must all year round, but I’m not sure about you… but candles are even more integral in winter! With flavours like Lavender & Vanilla, Coffee, Fig & Cranberry, Orange & Cinnamon, we can’t wait to try 🙂

PLANT Skincare – creams are handmade to order to ensure maximum freshness using high grade oils, plant based emulsifiers, herbal infusions mostly from store owners, Ekrem and Tamara’s little garden, along with honey and beeswax from their own hive.

If you’re based in Australia, maybe next time you are looking for something on Etsy… try to find a local store.

The Line Hotel in LA’s Koreatown

The Line Hotel in LA’s funky and buzzing Koreatown was featured in another of our favourite blogs, Remodelista earlier this year. Set in a stripped-down 1960s Hyatt, this amazingly revamped hotel brings style and sophistication a new meaning… this design is devouring.

I particularly wanted to share because the fantastic way the design by Sean Knibb of Knibb Design has balanced the coolness of the concrete wall surface with warmth and tactility of textiles and patterns.

Ahoy Trader

Have you seen Ahoy Trader around? I am sure you would have seen Jai’s work around if you are based in Australia… but for our friends overseas, we’d like to introduce you to this Aussie bloke who creates fun coastal decor for homes… and it’s only the beginning for him!

Based in Byron Bay in northern NSW, Jai Vasicek opened Ahoy trader Store 2013, selling a unique collection of handmade pieces and original artworks, which include his own work.

Jai had an amazing childhood growing up sailing the world aboard his family’s boat ‘Malachi’… the ocean runs in his veins and as you can see from his work, it is a constant source for his creativity.

His work draws inspiration from numerous cultures and features vibrant colour with layers of print and patterns inspired by the sea and forest, featuring exotic creatures, then decorated in feather and shell adornments, bold motifs, religious iconography and sometimes evocative female forms from polynesian beauties to ocean sirens.

This is all topped off with splashes of neon and bright colours and the raw textures of resins and grouting bring every Ahoy Trader piece to life. These pieces are definitely a ‘full of life’ feature to top off your wall!

Fabulous and edgy online retailer Fenton & Fenton are huge supporters of Ahoy Trader and they stock a lot of Jai’s work in Melbourne. This includes the portholes, crosses and new to the range are Ahoy Trader cushions and throws!

Considering Jai launched Ahoy Trader in 2013… I am sure his work will continue to evolve and grow and this is only the bright beginning. 🙂

Château de la Goujeonnerie by Les Trois Garcons

There are many châteaux in France that are begging for love and attention, and this château was no different… and as featured in Vogue Living, it has been given a vibrant and contemporary lift, while also celebrating it’s past.

The men behind giving this Château de la Goujeonnerie it’s new life and bright future are Stefan Karlson, Hassan Abdullah and Michel Lasserre… they are also known for owning antique store; Maison Trois Garcons, the successful restaurant; Les Trois Garcons, a hot London bar called Loungelover AND an international interior design practice – L3G Designs.

So it was only natural (and the logical next step) that they found and fell in love with Château de la Goujeonnerie in the Vendée, France in 2006.

The château was originally built in 1872 by the architect Arsene Charier for the local mayor and his family, it boasted 22 rooms over three floors, its own lake and views of rolling green hills in the distance. Sadly like many châteaux in France, it had fallen into a state of disrepair… so the trio spent five years overhauling and restoring it to a new found glory.

Filled with stunning antiques, bright palette, beautiful finishes and inspiring art. This château takes you to your dreams of visiting the French countryside, drinking red wine and eating cheese. Mmmm… yep! Already can’t wait to go back to France 🙂

Designer: Elisa Strozyk

Berlin designer Elisa Strozyk is definitely a person to watch and follow. Known for her wooden textile design which is quite amazing, to her geometric and perfectly balanced Accordion furniture and lamp collection. Now, Elisa has focused her craft to ceramics, by creating these beautifully fluid ceramic tables.

We love the copper table frame with the monochromatic marbled ceramic top, with clearly defined black and white contrast.

Golden Rock Inn – Nevis, West Indies

Golden Rock Inn, on Nevis Island in the West Indies is an old sugar plantation, dating back to the early 1800’s, and it’s ruins have been lovingly restored to its now 21st century glory by artists Helen and Brice Marden.

Sitting on the slopes of Nevis Peak, Golden Rock has 11 guest rooms offering spectacular sea views towards the neighbouring Caribbean islands of Antigua, Redonda and Montserrat.

Navigation through the resort is done following the meandering paths through tropical gardens where you’ll meet monkeys, hummingbirds during day and hear tree frogs by night.

Our favourite free online interiors magazine Lonny featured Golden Rock earlier this year, and we now share with you this lovely space. Photographed for Lonny by Ingalls Photography.

I absolutely love the Caribbean and it’s vibrant, warm, rich colours that draw you in and instantly make you happy.

The design elements at Golden Rock are perfectly balanced with the stunning raw stone buildings, the crisp, clean design lines of the furnishings, and the pop’s and bursts of colours.

The hotel’s image gallery alone builds inspiration with the stunning wildlife and flora which inhabit the forest and gardens, let alone a relaxing visit… I’m dreaming to one day visit! (And I’m sure you are too after checking these pictures out) 🙂

Zinna Weave is a lovely neutral and organic round rug, which is a simple, elegant way to bring a neutral texture into a room. It’s a perfect feature to ground a space but still keep interest without being too over attracting.
